These are the most common items that you should know and bring to your income tax interview:
1.- Social Security Card and Birth Certificates____
2.- Originals or copies of all W2 forms and 1099 forms if any
3.- Statements from sales of stocks
4.- Bank statements reporting interest earned from savings accounts
5.- Rental income from rental properties and rental activity expenses such as mortgage, property taxes, maintenance, insurance etc.
6.- Escrow settlement statements reflecting purchase of home and or sale of home if any
7.- Student loan interest statements
8.- Business income if any from self employed activity and business expenses separated by category for the whole year such as Rent, Advertising, Utilities, Maintenance, etc.
9.-If you are a new client, it is recommended that you bring last year taxes
ITEMIZED PERSONAL DEDUCTIONS:
MEDICAL EXPENSES:Prescriptions, Insurance Premiums and, Doctor, Hospital, and Dentist visits, Glasses, Hearing Aids, Batteries, and amount of miles incurred during your hospital and doctor travel.
TAXES: Real Estate Taxes including time shares, Personal Property taxes such as Vehicle registration, State sales taxes.
INTEREST: Personal Home mortgage interest statement, If you are paying it to a private party, you need to bring name, address and social security number of the private party.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS: Donations to churches, United Way, Good Will, Veteran's Administration, Salvation Army etc. all donations must be documented with receipts, Property donations such as cars must be backed with a statement from the donee.
MISCELLANEOUS: Union dues, Tax prep fee, Educational expenses, Job seeking expenses, Professional license fee, Journal and magazine subscriptions, Safety equipment, Tools and supplies used in your trade or job, Safe deposit box,Uniform cost and maintenance, Investment expenses, Business meals, Business phone, Business miles traveled, and Gambling expenses. Remember business miles are deductible but commuting miles are not. Gambling losses are deductible up to the amount of the Gambling winnings.
CHILD CARE: Name, address and social security number or employer number of care provider
RENTERS CREDIT: Name, address, and phone number of landlord
EDUCATION: Rgistration and Tuition expenses for any college education that appied to you and or your dependents.
TEACHERS: Copy of preliminary credential to prove you are a teacher
